Which Harmonica Should I Buy?
1.What are the different types of harmonicas?
The most common and useful types of harmonicas are either 10-hole major diatonics (for blues, rock, country, and folk) or chromatic harmonicas (commonly used for jazz or classical, and for melody playing). Most other types like tremolo, octave, minor tunings, bass and chord harmonicas, tend to be for special purposes.
2.How much to spend?
As with most products in most industries, you get what you pay for. We don’t list the cheap, border-line toy harmonicas, so anything you find listed at HarmonicaStore.com will be good to superb quality and great for any player at any level. Cheap harmonicas which tend to leak air are very difficult for beginners to learn on (especially if you would like to learn to bend notes for blues, country, rock, etc.)
3.Which harmonica key to buy?
Usually the key of “C” is the best first key for diatonic. Recommended diatonic keys after the key of “C” include: “A”, “D”, “F”, “G”, and “Bb” (roughly in that order—or you can buy all six keys packaged together). Of course, if there is a song in a particular key that you want to play along with, then you would need the correct diatonic key for that song.
4.Wood or plastic harmonica comb?
Plastic combs tend to play better and last longer than wooden combed harmonicas that have not been sealed. Keep in mind that for diatonic harmonicas, most wood combs are now sealed and therefore will not expand and contract with moisture. This was not true before 2010, but it’s true today.
5.What do I do with the harmonica once I buy it?
A somewhat silly question, but basically, play and have fun. You can play simple songs, make up melodies, play with friends, or play along (jam) to your favourite bands and music. You don’t need to be a technical wizard to play songs and have fun.
Starting Out
1.Breathing tip:
The further you can put the harmonica into your mouth without losing the single note, the better.
2.Playing music:
If you are just starting out on harmonica, don’t try to “play music” right away. Spend a couple of weeks just concentrating on the basic techniques; establishing good habits with single notes, holding the harmonica, etc. The “music” will come soon enough.
3.Stay relaxed:
Stay as relaxed as you can when you play and practice. You will use your energy much more efficiently and ultimately be able to play faster and last longer. The trouble areas for tension are usually: the shoulders, the neck, and the whole face in general, but especially the eyes and mouth area. Watch yourself in the mirror.
4.Moisten your lips:
If you find your lips sticking to the harmonica when you slide or move from hole to hole, lick your lips and the mouthpiece part of the harmonica before playing. Do this whenever necessary.
5.Making music:
Remember, there is no prize at the end except that you’re making music, making friends, and that you’ve accomplished something of worth that you did by yourself for yourself (and for all the lucky people that get to hear you play).

Excellent and beautiful harmonica. The playability and response are fantastic.
Beautiful model, comfortable. Sounds good. No air leaks. It's very convenient that it's compatible with other models through the holes; you can rearrange the lids and comb in different combinations. As a downside, the original comb looks cheap. I made one out of wood.
